The Juhu Beach Collection - Oct 2014

The Juhu Beach Collection

Photos Taken: 10/3/2014

About: A great day at Juhu :) We spotted a monkey walking, but of course, only to attract our attention and to convince us to give money to the man walking it. In my last post, I described the reason we were at Juhu, so you should check that out too! I loved the reflection of the water upon the sand. I fell in love with the yellow sari that the woman in the 2nd picture is wearing...isn't it amazingly gorgeous?

The Navratri Collection 2 - Oct 2014

The Navratri Collection 2 - Davy on the Beach

Photos Taken: 10/3/2014

About: The ninth day of the Hindu celebration of Navratri. During this celebration, the people dunk Davy, or Ganesh's mother, into the ocean. Although, some of the statues get left out on the beach after the high tide has passed, and are, sadly, left there. The colors were very vivid on the statue (in comparison to the sand), so I wanted to capture the contrast, as well as the people around celebrating this event. And talk about a HOT day!

The Dhobi Ghat Collection - Oct 2014

The Dhobi Ghat Collection

Photo Taken: 10/1/2014

About: We visited the Dhobi Ghat, the largest clothes washing group in all of Asia. It was truly amazing to see how many people work together to wash, dry and iron clothes everyday! There are over 5,000 people in the community, washing 100,000 pieces of clothing every single day. Wow. Wow. Wow.

The Navratri Collection - Sept 2014

The First of Many Posts in Bombay

Photos Taken: 9/26/2014

About: Okay, let's face it. There is no possible way to keep track of the Indian holidays that happen. This is one of the few that I have already witnessed. I took the picture of the celebration at around 10pm from my balcony. Let's face it, for the Indians outside my apartment building, music really is life. They were all dancing in a circle. Sometimes just the adults, and sometimes just the children. It was amazing to see the same choreography through the generations. The vivid colors really caught my eye and I wanted to show how festive they really are when it comes to celebrations and everyday living.

Navratri is the celebration of the Hindu goddess, Durga. To brief you a little, Navratri in sanskrit means nine nights. This is a long festival consisting of dancing and different colors worn for each day. I'm still learning myself, but I do know that these celebrations follow the lunar calendar and that Diwali is coming in around a month's time as well.

Stay tuned for photos from Diwali...

The Marshmallow Taffy Collection - July 2014

What to Do with some Extra Marshmallows...

Photos Taken: 7/20/2014

About: If you thought regular s'mores were messy, try this and see how that works out for you. Personally, I like to focus on gooey substances, in this case, marshmallows... I didn't use the rule of thirds because I wanted to focus more on the food itself and not its surroundings.
