The Navratri Collection - Sept 2014

The First of Many Posts in Bombay

Photos Taken: 9/26/2014

About: Okay, let's face it. There is no possible way to keep track of the Indian holidays that happen. This is one of the few that I have already witnessed. I took the picture of the celebration at around 10pm from my balcony. Let's face it, for the Indians outside my apartment building, music really is life. They were all dancing in a circle. Sometimes just the adults, and sometimes just the children. It was amazing to see the same choreography through the generations. The vivid colors really caught my eye and I wanted to show how festive they really are when it comes to celebrations and everyday living.

Navratri is the celebration of the Hindu goddess, Durga. To brief you a little, Navratri in sanskrit means nine nights. This is a long festival consisting of dancing and different colors worn for each day. I'm still learning myself, but I do know that these celebrations follow the lunar calendar and that Diwali is coming in around a month's time as well.

Stay tuned for photos from Diwali...
